Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for Business, Innovation, Science and TradeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 26217

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, what estimate his Department has made of the annual increase in UK GDP attributable to full UK access to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Answered by Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade

The Department’s 2023 impact assessment estimated that the UK's accession to CPTPP could increase UK gross domestic product (GDP) by £2.0 billion each year in the long run, compared with projected GDP in 2040 without the agreement, in 2021 prices.

The assessment considered the marginal impact on the UK of acceding to CPTPP in full, meaning accession having been ratified by all 11 original CPTPP members. Full UK access has now been achieved following Canada’s ratification of UK accession.
