Democratic Republic of the Congo: Forests

Asked by James MacClearyLiberal DemocratForeign, Commonwealth and Development OfficeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 26337

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment his Department has made of the diplomatic and development challenges of engaging with the Democratic Republic of the Congo on protection of the Congo Basin.

Answered by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

We work in partnership with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and countries across the region, to support effective forest governance and enable sustainable economic opportunities for forest-dependent communities. We also work with the DRC and international partners to strengthen climate and environmental institutions and mobilise investment that delivers both forest protection and inclusive growth.
