The question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the British Embassy Tirana article entitled UK and Albania sign a regional-first asset sharing arrangement, published on 26 August 2026, what assessment has been made of the adequacy of the equal division of recovered proceeds in providing an appropriate return to the UK where the underlying criminal activity impacted the UK.

Asset recovery is an effective tool to deprive criminals of their profits, disrupt criminal networks, deter and discredit criminality and delivery recovered assets back to public good.
Asset sharing is the division of funds recovered under asset recovery powers between two or more countries, to recognise their joint efforts to recover assets and encourage continued cooperation.
In this case, proceeds connected to a concluded prosecution for conspiracy to supply cannabis to organised crime groups in England and Wales were successfully identified and recovered in Albania.
The equal division of the recovered proceeds recognises the operational and judicial activity undertaken by both jurisdictions and is in line with established international asset-sharing principles. This arrangement reflects the UK and Albanian governments’ commitment to work together to disrupt serious organised crime.
